The Tartan Mine Project is a critical component of McEwen's strategy to double its gold production to between 250,000 and 300,000 ounces annually by 2030. Initial production at Tartan is expected to average approximately 30,000 ounces per year, with plans to potentially increase throughput to 45,000 - 55,000 ounces per year by expanding the mill capacity from 500 tonnes per day to 1,000 tonnes per day.
The company has allocated a budget of $6 million for exploration in 2026, aimed at expanding the resource and testing near-mine and regional drill targets. Additionally, metallurgical test work is currently underway to optimize the process plant design, alongside underground mine planning. McEwen is also reviewing existing environmental licenses to facilitate operations under the current 500 tpd authorization.
This announcement is expected to positively impact McEwen's stock price, reflecting investor confidence in the company's growth trajectory and operational capabilities. The Tartan Mine, which previously produced approximately 47,000 ounces of gold before its closure in 1989, is now poised for a significant revival, supported by the latest resource estimates and development plans.
